In February 1984, astronaut Bruce McCandless second furthest distanced himself from the ship’s safe zone. This “feat” was made possible thanks to MMU – a rocket with a jet of compressed nitrogen. After a few test maneuvers in and over the ship’s cargo bay «Challenger» McCandless went on a “free flight” at a distance of 97 meters from the ship. At this amazing picture McCandless seems a doll against the blackness of space and the blue of our Earth. (NASA)
