Wonderful place on Earth

The island of Socotra – off the coast of Yemen and Somalia. The island is home to wierd geographical features, wierd flora and fauna, and has its own unique Semitic language. Mentioned in early Greek navigational texts, the name appears to be derived from the Sanskrit language of India. In early times, the island was inhabited by Nestorian Christians, but is apparently now Islamic, with its people being made up of Somali, Yemeni and Indian ancestry.
